Custom Embroidered Christmas Gifts in Indianapolis: What to Order and When

Custom embroidery is made to order, which means there is a point in December when I can no longer promise it for Christmas. Here are this year's dates, what makes a good embroidered gift, and how to get your order in without a scramble.

Christmas 2026 order-by dates

  • Shipped to you: order by Friday, December 11.
  • Local pickup in Indianapolis: order by Wednesday, December 16.

Those dates assume everything is already in my hands: the item is here and ready to stitch. If the item has to get to me first, move each date up one week. That covers anything I need to order in for you, and anything you are mailing to me.

How you get it back Where the item is when you order Order by
Shipped Already here in the workshop Friday, December 11
Shipped I need to order it in, or you are mailing it to me Friday, December 4
Local pickup Already here, or you are dropping it off Wednesday, December 16
Local pickup I need to order it in Wednesday, December 9

If you are mailing me your own item, order by December 4 and make sure it arrives here by December 11.

Not sure which date applies to you? Use the earlier one, or ask and I will tell you.

Past the date? Ask anyway. I take rush requests on custom orders case by case, depending on what is on the machine that week. Call or text 317-316-0782 and I will give you a straight answer.

What makes a good embroidered gift

The best embroidered gifts are things people already wear or carry, with something on them that could only belong to that person.

Hats and beanies. A name, a monogram, a nickname, an inside joke. Text and monogram orders carry no digitizing fee, so a one-off hat stays a reasonable gift. You can browse the fonts and the thread colors on hand before you order.

Hoodies, crewnecks and fleece. Winter is when these get worn, and stitching holds up to the washing a favorite sweatshirt gets.

Garment bags. For the singer, dancer or performer in your life, a garment bag with their name on it is a gift that gets used every concert season.

Small office gifts. I have no minimum order. If you want five polos or eight beanies with the company logo for your team, that is a normal order here, not one I turn away.

One thing to know about logos: a logo has to be digitized first, a one-time step that turns the artwork into a stitch file. It adds time, so logo gifts are the ones to start earliest.

Bring your own item

Already bought the robe, the blanket or the stocking? I embroider customer-supplied items too. Send me a photo first. Most fabric items can go in a hoop, but some lined, structured or very thick pieces can't, and I would rather tell you that before you make the drive.

The details are on the Customer-Supplied Materials page. If you are local, dropping it off skips the mail entirely, which is why your date is later.

Getting a monogram right

This is the part people get wrong most often, so here is the short version.

  • Traditional three-letter monogram: the last-name initial goes in the center, larger, with the first initial on the left and the middle initial on the right. Anna Marie Clark becomes ACM.
  • Block monogram, all letters the same size: first, middle, last, in order. Anna Marie Clark becomes AMC.

When you order, write the initials in the exact order you want them stitched and tell me which style you mean. And check the spelling of every name twice. Thread is permanent, which is the whole point, but it also means a stitched name can't be undone.

If you are local to Indianapolis

I work from a home workshop on the west side of Indianapolis, near Ben Davis High School, and visits are by appointment. Pickup and drop-off take shipping time out of both directions, so local orders get the latest date. Within 30 miles of Indianapolis, I also deliver local orders over $50 to your door.
